The first BMW M3 was based on the E30 3 Series and was intended to be a homologation special to satisfy the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft and Group A Touring rules, which required a total of 5,000 cars to be built. It was presented to the public at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, and began production from March 1986 to June 1991. The E30 M3 was mainly produced in the coupe two-door body style, but limited volumes of convertibles were also produced. The front splitter, the rear apron, sill panels as well as changes to the body in the area of the rear window and the bootlid improved the aerodynamics. For aerodynamic reasons, the rear window was flattened and the tailgate was made of light, glass-reinforced plastic raised by approximately 40 mm for better air flow. The changes over the rear of the car resulted in lower lift forces and better straight-line stability. In addition, the windscreen was glued in and not as with the other E30 models, framed with a window rubber and piping. As a result, the M3 achieved a relatively low drag coefficient of Cd=0.33 instead of Cd=0.38 as in the standard 3 Series. The only exterior body panels the regular 3 Series and the M3 shared were the bonnet, roof panel, sunroof and inner door panels. The brake calipers, rotors and master cylinder were unique to the M3 model as well, along with the transmission being a Getrag 265 5-speed manual. European models were outfitted with a dogleg version with close ratios and a 1:1 ratio for fifth gear. North American models used a traditional shift pattern and had wider gear spacing with an overdriven fifth gear. A clutch-type limited-slip differential was standard equipment, for an old car there is no better luxury and style.... Than a classic E30 M3, and only the most sophisticated and classy people own one.

The M9A1is an update of the M9, it was updated with the addition of a one-slot Picatinny rail for mounting lights, lasers, and other accessories to the weapon. The M9A1 has more aggressive front, backstrap checkering, and a beveled magazine well for easier reloading of the weapon. M9A1 pistols are sold with Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coated magazines that were developed to better withstand the conditions of sandy environments in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Making it more resistant than the original M9s, but this also made it a bit heavier than its counterpart. However, this M9A1 was a prototype to the newer model being the M9A3, so it holds all the benefits the A3 has. It still keeps the slot Picatinny rail but now updated with a seventeen-round magazine, Earth-tone finish, thinner vertical grip for improved control and less conspicuous concealed carry. Farther more this version was also given removable wrap-around grip that can be swapped between the Vertec-style and 'old' M9 style, removable sights so that users can select the sight material and construction, universal slide which makes the gun convertible from decocker-safety to decocker-only mode and a sand-resistant magazine with beveled shape for blind reloading. With seventeen bullets in the magazine now, this gives this version seven extra firing shots. Most would believe the gun is out of ammo only to find it still firing, the M9 already has a great reputation when it comes to manufacturing.... And the M9A1 farther pushes the bounties of a model which will probably never be obsolete.
